Any chance someone here knows how to identify m3 grants and Matilda 2's as I'm visiting a scrap metal yard which contains both tanks however all the paint has flaked off and the only identification is a few numbers welded into the front hull
Yes I am aware what both the tanks look like that's not a problem I'm just interested in figuring out things such as where they were made and what year so those pics aren't really helpful... But aye thanks for trying to help out
This lot is always a resource for the more esoteric questions, the accumulated knowledge-years are why I come here.
Yea I've tried researching before but I just can't seem to get any form of answer as to what the numbers welded into the front mean so I figured id join a forum and see what happens this has also made me question if these numbers were added onto the tank after the war so if you happen to know where to look on m3's for hull numbers or whatever that would be much appreciated too
My impression is that he was asking where to look for things like data plates and such. I would think an important question in that regard would be whether or not he can access the interior of the vehicles.
The tanks are sitting off the side of a highway in the middle of no where however they have been completely gutted and scrapped for metal no engines no side doors no turrets etc but yes you can go inside said tanks
I do have photos of these tanks from last time I went there is be happy to post them if anyone would be so kind as to tell me how to post them (This is my first time on a forum)

Hey guys thanks for all the help it's all much appreciated I'm a few hours out from the yard I'll send you pictures and tell you what I find. Thanks again
Hello again so I've got internet back now and sadly all the data plates are missing on all vehicles but one Matilda and one m3 still had just enough paint to read the numbers painted on the side Matilda: RO37 M3: T-24186
