In my opinion the Maus was basically a rediculous "Pipe-Dream".Transporting it would be very difficult or limited, its massive weight would severely restrict where it could go and operate. It's huge size made it hard to conceal and a large target for planes or artillery guns.An SU-152 would have probably destroyed "Hitler's Dream" with one hit.And then of course the fuel problem.
It was obviously unfeasible which is probably why the Germans never really persued it's design with much rigor.A "White Elephant" if there ever was one! :D
Even in a defensive role at the end of the war(it's only possible use) rocket firing fighter-bombers would have had a feild day destroying it.A suicide weapon at best. :bang:

Fighter-bombers would not have been the main threat, or even a notable threat. They seldom destroyed any tanks. What would kill a Maus would have probably have been either:

    - Running out of fuel
    - Killed by infantry using Bazookas/captured Panzerfaust, etc.
    - Killed at close range by something that could (17 pdr etc.)
    - Breaking down...

It is not a suicide weapon any more than any other "heavy" would be, really...

Otherwise I agree with you trappermike, 'twas a waste of resources and the product of Hitlers ludicrous imagination
