Medal is very hard to see. Don't photograph it in front of a window. Maybe lay it on a flat lighter colored background.

What country is the medal from?

No need to apologize. The question was worth asking. People here don't mind helping with such request and respect the service implicit in such awards even if they aren't from WWII.

So many men who served during WWII and was discharged in 45/46 couldn't find jobs because war production ended and the Labor market was flooded, so they found employment by reenlisting in the service. Sounds like your grandfather might have been one of these.

Lwd is correct. Asking questions is how we learn. If you are unsure or don't know the anwer, there's nothing wrong with finding out. It's part of what we do. Now you know something you didn't before.

Not only does CzechSoldier know but the rule of thumb used to be for every person that asked there were 10 more that wanted to know. I didn't know that particular medal existed but now I do. I suspect that there are many more like me some of whom will read this thread.

Knowledge not shared is lost. Asking questions leads to the sharing of knowledge.

*** edit to correct typo - Left the "C" off of CzechSoldier" ***
    I apologize for that.
