    Hey

So these arent World War II Games, but they still look pretty good.

Lords of the Realm III: I have this game and play multiplayer with my friend from upstairs so havent played too much singleplayer. Singleplayer is pretty challanging though. Centers around the William the Conquer - The Black Prince time period, and includes maps of Ireland, England, France, Geramany, and Italy (Barbarossa in Italy).

Knights of Honor: Graphically wise, i think it is the same of Lords of the Realm III, only difference is there are more units, bigger maps, more to do in the way of building new cities (instead of taking over pre-existing ones i think) and controlling the economy a lot more. Combat can also take place in Night/Day and there are more buildings (AKA attacking a walled city means exactly that, instead of just a castle like in Lords). Knights of Honor is going to be released over the next month or so.

    Anyone play any others?

    Muss,
Sound good. I can recommend Age of Empires II, the Age of Kings and The Conquerors expansion.
Both present campaigns based on historical events, and game strategy reflects actual eventualities.
Once you grasp the higher strategies involved, it's possible to win every time though.

    Regards,
    Gordon

i've played Age of Empires. Lords of the Realm and Knights of Honor are a lot different. Wasnt a big fan of it - you basically just harvest resources, build as many troops as you can, then attack the enemy.

    http://www.knights-of-honor.net/

    http://www.lords3.com/

There are the links. Check them out to see the screenshots and trailers etc. They're more 'complicated' then Age of Empires and like-minded games. Its actually pretty cool - on the world map your armies are represented as a single knight carrying a flag. The 'Knights' engage in battle and you can switch from the World View to the Battle View (where you control all the units and the battle) so that you can make sure Army 1 is doing well, return to the World Map and check up on Army 2.

    Muss,
They look good, just like the pc version of Risk II.
Mate of mine swears by Civilisation-never tried it though.

I am not familiar with these games but would like to ask a question of both of you.

Q: do you think that these games you mention would have any application in a World Cultures classroom full of 7th graders?

    Opinions please.

    Thank You

    JP,
I'm only guessing, but would that be 12 year olds?
I think the Age of Empires ones certainly would, because you need to harvest/control resources in order to acquire technology, and you need technology from the military viewpoint.
Also, the Conquerors expansion deals with civilisations from South America to Japan, and their mutual interaction. Don't look for STRICT historical accuracy, but they're interesting nontheless.
They're strictly one player games, but can't really be won in less than four hours even when you know the MO. It's all about long-term strategy, so I would say yes.

    Regards,

    Gordon

Dont know about Knights of Honor, but Lords of the Realm has several historic battles (Agincourt, etc) and the SinglePlayer are all historic - like Barbarossa fighting united Italian states, the Black Prince in France, William the Conquerer in England, and the like. As for in the game, there are Knights, different Military Units (that become available when you have good Christian ratings - Teutonic Knights, Templars, Hospitaliers) Serfs who harvest food, and Burghers who collect money, and priests who worship God etc. you'd have to look into it more though.

I have a game called Medieval:Total War, it got a 93% from PC Gamer with a comment: It's the best strategy game of the year.

Wel, you have to run a country in both army wisse and economic wise, then from year to year, you expand your army and in the end your looking to dominate the whole of Europe. When you go to war with an opponent, you can control your army with movement, who to attack, charge or walk ETC.

The realism is a high or as low as the player wants it to be, you have choices to turn on/off:
    Limited arrows
    Fatigue
    Moral

And you can also choose hpow many numbers are in each regiment by changing it all in options.

There is a multiplayer option where you buy an army, and there is a skirmish, same against a computer (or more, up to 8), and a historical campaign, you go through battles as a General such as: Babarossa, Henry V, Joan of Arc and more, and you get given an army to re-enact the battle and win... Other Generals are Saladin, Richard the Lionheart.

You can also play a famous historic battle such as the Battle of Hastings.

In this, each country does have it's pros and cons, England have their ledgendary longbowmen, while Spain have their Lancers, the most expensive but probably the strongest Cavalry in the game.

I'm not sure whether it's out some other place except England, but if you're English and you like strategic games and a challenge it may be worth looking at, you could have a look at it using the internet,

I've been playing Medieval Total War since December and I'm addicted. Even during work I try to figure out ways to expand my empire and gain more territory. Its also increased my interest in Medieval battles.

Dont you need a good graphics card and all to run it? It crashes everytime i try to run it on my comp (despite having a Radeon 9000 3D graphic card) so i cant play it.

Another game, a bit like AoE is Empire Earth, however in Empire Earth you advance from cavemen to futuristic robots.. It has the same type of gameplay, collect wood, food, ETC. and build armies to defeat foes.
It has 4 campaigns, Ancient Greeks, English, Germans, and Russian.
Greeks are in the years of Troy and so on,
English are from 1066 to the Battle of Waterloo,
Germans are in World War one, but may well be in World War 2 as I haven't finished this campaign,
Russians are futuristic, in the Nano ages.

I have completed the English and Greek campaigns, but in the Germans I am on the third mission, and on Russians the second.

Have to agree on this one. This is definitely the best medieval game out there, both with regards to realism and looks. Since the game is fully 3D, you sort of get the "riders of Rohan crash into the hosts of Mordor" sense when knights slam into infantry lines.

On the other hand it's more complicated than Age of Empires, which would possibly be more suitable for children.

    An update to the gaming...
    Empire Earth-
This runs into WW2! I am on the last mission and as Germans, I am aiming to take out a British landmark! I already played through the mission where halfway through you get the Bismarck!! On Russian campaign, Grigor, the owner of Russia (who have taken over all of Europe and now looking at China), has died and his succesor (Grigor II, a huge robot, is going to run the country ( which made a few rebels which I crushed in one mission). I am now against China and hope tro win.
    Time Commanders-
For the Brits, there is aRoman game show where contestants play as a team in Roman times and aim to win their opponents. It's on for an hour on friday at about 7, on BBC2. A great game, and looks similar to Medieval Total War.
    Medieval: Total War-
So everyone agrees this has to be the best strategy game ever? It's damn hard! I hate being Muslims on it, I hate the sand, and the fact they have hardly any armour! Instead I prefer the English, Spanish, or the Germans. But the sad thing is, it's only the Muslims which have the Easy status :( . I always send my country into financial problems [IMG] But, the multiplayer is damn fun! The best sight of the game's is when your cavalry charge into the backs of a set of Pikemen or Spearmen. :D The only countries I like being are:
English; Spanish; Germans; France; Italians. The rest have hardly any armour and I hate the sight of an army which is shaded in brown because of the mass of cavalry (hate horse archers!)
    Chess-
Medieval Total War is a bit similar to this very old game...

Mak los Schnitzel, this is a little off topic but on the Axis forums you asked about the license plate WL as being a special one to the Hermann Göring Divison ? It wasn't ! this was standard Luftwaffe procedure for all Luftwaffe units obtaining any type of ground vehicles, whether Air, Fallshirm or other.........
