    First photos I had seen of boats carrying German troops to or from Messina, July or August 1943.

    eBay, from the estate of Günter Schlosser, 29th Panzer Grenadier.

    Resized to 1200 dpi and auto-sharpened to post here.

    Thanks to Forum-marinearchiv.de, I believe the two boats are Pionierlandungsboot Type 40, PiLb 40.

    I love examining these sorts of photos

    It appears to be three different boats. The boat in the distance of the bottom photo appears to different than the one in the top photo. Hard to tell at this resolution, and maybe not incredible relevant but quite interesting to me anyways.
