MRU - Miedzyrzecz, North-west Poland. (German name: Meseritz) Some more photos of the fortified group 'Scharnhorst' at Pniewo - showing anti-tank 'Dragon's teeth' and close-ups of the armoured cupolas. It is here that you can enter one area of the underground tunnel system. Close- by is the museum. Official tours can be as short as 1 hour, or as long as 8 hours. English-speaking guides are available. www.bunky.pl
Enjoyed the photos. the cupolas are very similar to the Maginot liner, complete with "scars" and the "tiger teeth" are similar to the ones I saw where Switzerland, France and Germany come together....on the German side of the border, I guess the end of the Siegfried Line. I have only been to Krakow, a rather beautiful city. Would love to see more of Poland. Gaines
Many thanks for the comments. Much appreciated. There are Dragon teeth to be seen in several areas. Wooden teeth were used on the river banks next to the opening bridge at Bledzew. They have a different name which escapes me at the moment. Several opening bridges were built. I shall post some photos at a later date. A few have recently been renovated and can be opened. Different opening systems were used. We live on one of the lakes which were part of the defense line. There is a system of trenches which stretch from our houses towards Bledzew, to the north. I agree with you, Gaines. Kraków is very beautiful. We live within easy driving distance of Berlin, Poznań, Gorzów (German Landsberg) and Zielona Góra. Szczecin is also just a couple of hours away.
great pics...look so peaceful, but constructed for intense violence......now that you mention Krakow, that reminds me of when I was young, and went to the old meat shop and got some Krakow sausage.....made me feel like I was in Europe
Ahh, Krakowska sausage. It's still being made. Żywiecka is good, too. In fact, they are all good! Feeling hungry now.
