Just 3rd place, but hey, I'm happy! I entered my painting of the Troopship Queen Mary I posted here a few months ago. Apologies for the lack of a photo, I'm using my wife's iPhone and I can't post pics yet.

Anyway, I'm pretty happy I placed since around here in New Mexico the southwestern art seems to be more popular than my maritime works! :)

Let me be the first to congratulate you. The ribbon is nice, but knowing you bested others is better. It's about time others recognized your ability.

Why are we (here on the forum) not surprised? It is a talent many here envy, but recognize as your own. Congratulations Darren!

That does it! Now I am going to be doing my best to get to the fair.......and I am going to say it......with art communities heavy throughout the North, (an important economic resource as well) from Cuba to Los Alamos to Taos to Santa Fe and many smaller communities, as well as the Western Res art communities there is no small amount of competition at our State Fair. A third place in this artful state is nothing to smirk at. Congratulations!

CONGRATULATIONS! I know what you mean...years ago I belonged to the Dayton Photo Club...if you're photo didn't include at least one of the following you didn't have a chance at "placing"!

    1) Fog
    2) Abandoned Farm house/barn/silo with weathered surfaces
    3) Rusty gates
    4) Cows and/or horses
    5) Printed in black and white with the full Ansel Adam's zone treatment

You usually could win if you had all of the above in one photo!

    Best regards

    - JR

keep at it Darren I was an art teacher before heading overseas for stuff I was not so keen taking part in. are you planning an art career of some sort. Dang we need to have the folk here post some of their art-work even non ww2 related on a separate thread sometime

I was when the eyes were clear into the carbon-pencil and pen/ink landscape(s) direction developed some very unique techniques.

    good work !

Gladly Ulrich when I get back from Europe in mid October; time for more research for one of my books and some R and R. would you prefer nudes ? :D

hmmmmmmmmmm guess I will stick to landscapes ........... much is in the old notebook type form though there are a few mounted/framed pieces in the house that get changed regularly. I must be really vain as I see two of them in my office amongst the aviation prints and photos I have acquired over many years. will try and gets some nice close ups of the ink details as when the eyes were functioning properly I would get within 2-3 inchs off the work surface, that is probably why my eyes are crap now besides all the work and other activities in too hot a sun.
