From both sides of the family, everybody were part of the Macedonian partisan movement. My paternal grandfather was a kurir, and treated wounded partisan,my paternal grandmother also helped, and received a medal after the war. Also after the war my grandfather was appointed by President Metodija Andonov-Chento,chief of the security police with the task of mop up operations and reconstruction.I do also have relatives that took part in the war.For example,we even have a national hero. On my maternal side,my grandfather was a partisan company commander. After the war he worked in the Ministry of internal affairs, and retired as the chief supply officer for the Ministry of Internal affairs.
Just to add, when the break with Stalin occured in 1948,my paternal grandfather was relieved of his duties and sent to a tank battalion, waiting for the Russians to attack Yugoslavia.
Cheers thunder_love! I was back in 1998 in Macedonia in camp CAC near Skopje. Before that one year in Doboj. wondering if you can tell more of your area´s WW2 heroes. Thanx!
One is Tode Dumba,he was killed after the war,and he is a relative of mine. While the other heroes Hristijan Todorovski-Karpos.While other heroes include my grandparents,as I mentioned earlier my grandmother was given a medal for treating wounded partisans. Both Karpos and Dumba were killled because they were pro-Macedonian. Can you tell me a little bit about yourself and your family?
My maternal grandfather, died with a bomb shrapnel in his leg.He died at age of 82 years old. He was crossing the river in 1943 when his kurir was drowning,my grandfather sacrificed himself to save his kurir.Unfortunately neither grandfathers were decorated and given the status of a veteran.
