I came across a story that referred to three SS officers who landed by parachute amidst a Heer unit sometime in early 1945. When asked for identification, the three officers—all apparently native German speakers—produced a type of identification the Heer unit commander had never seen before. He was told it was a new type of ID just beginning to be issued in Berlin. The Heer commander took down the officers' names, ranks and other ID info, then lent them a kubelwagen in which they left. Their names later turned out to be false, as did their ID info. Anyone else heard this story? If so, any additional details?
