Hi there I'm new to this forum, and I joined in search of information on a hat I have. The story behind it is my great grandfather was serving in WWII in Trieste after the end of the war and he shot and killed a Nazi Party Leader/Official and took his hat and cane during the violence there after the war was over.

I was just wondering whether anybody would be able to dig up information on it, the event or possibly who owned the hat.

I have photos but they are to large to upload to here, We found it in my grandfathers shed after he passed away in a special box, it is completely untouched and in terrific condition, have had it verified as an original, and the tag inside reads:
    Hersteller (manufacturer): A23
Reichzeugmeisterer der NSDAP Nr. C: 163908

Thankyou for any information you may give.

Reichzugmeisterei ( usually known as RZM ) was the Reich Quartermasters' office responsible for all materials and supply.

Sorry, but without good, clear and detailed photos, it's unlikely that anyone here will be able to offer more info........

With the white piping, it would be a Kreisleiter's cap.

In Trieste after the war was over was when he killed him and took the hat, so between 1945 maybe early 1946, I'm trying to find out more details via relatives, but to no avail so far, that's all I know.

So I've narrowed the date down to May 2nd 1945, the 2nd New Zealand Expeditionary Force (my great grandfathers division) arrived in Trieste on that day and the Nazis surrender later that day, so it had to have happened then.

I also found to photo of an official taken in Trieste, possibly him, but no name.

Well the Kreisleiter for Trieste was Oberbereichsleiter Gottlieb Pfeiffer but can't seem to find much on him

Yeh that's the same name that I managed to dig up PzJgr, but can't confirm that's him in the picture.

Yes thanks Smiley, I managed to find that to, giving previous history, apparently he was Kriesleiter in Wangen and was then transferred to Trieste, also his date of birth 6-10-1904 so he would have been 41 when he may have died in Trieste. This is interesting stuff, but a bit creepy XD

This is what I love about doing this kind of research. It can be time consuming, but it is always rewarding to see the progress that you made.
