    Hello forum :)
Long time reader, first time poster.
For quite some time I have had this dagger lying around, it was passed down to me by my grandfather who obtained it overseas and based on all my research so far it is a naval officers dagger, 2nd model. (see link for very similar related pictures) Wittmann Militaria - 2nd Model Navy by Eickhorn

My main questions are referring to what rank these specific types of daggers were assigned to, and I suppose following that how rare that would make these particular blades?
Thanks for the help in advance forum!

post a photo(s) please then we can go from there, am assuming you have the short Dolch worn by Offiziers and not the sabre to higher ranks ?

The photo in my first post is as close as I can find to an exact match on the internet.

You said that you have the dagger lying around...pick up a camera and take a picture.

I am curious as to what 'higher ranks' you are talking about. It is my understanding that dress regulations for Officers and senior NCO’s prescribed wear of side arms as a component of particular forms of dress. Officers and certain senior NCO ranks were responsible for purchasing their own uniforms, including side arms, and as a result were allotted a clothing allowance through the Navy’s Offizierkleiderkasse system. The sword was just a more expensive option and one that was not purchased by as many Officer's and senior NCO's. To my recollection I have never seen a photo of Doenitz wearing a sabre.
