HI all; I stumbled on this forum while doing an internet search on the location of Rommel's Field Marshall's baton. Fascinating forum, packed full of good stuff. I am a US Army veteran (1976-1980, SGT/E5) and I am currently a rocket scientist (engineer working on the next generation space launch vehicle at Marshall Space Flight Center, Huntsville, AL). I used to collect WWII vintage US military decoration sets, but have recently sold off most of my collection. I still have quite a few post WWII decoration sets, but I am not actively collecting at this time. My hobbies are historical research, writing, working on classic Chevys and old Corvettes (not so much anymore since I am old and decrepit). I have always been fascinated by the history of WWII, as long as I can remember. I watch the "Nazi Channel" (as my wife calls it). I keep telling her there is no Nazi channel, it is the American Heroes Channel (AHC). She always replies, "Then how come every time I come in here there are Nazi's on the TV?". I recently wrote an article about a previously unknown variation of the US Army Good Conduct medal for the Journal of the Orders and Medals Society of America. I am also compiling a list of recipients of the United Daughters of the Confederacy Cross of Military Service by conflict and CMS cross number. I am very glad to be here. Ed McComas Madison, AL
Welcome to the forum Ed. I've got a feeling you're going to get a lot of questions yourself. There's more than a few 'Astronuts' here and when we take a break from The War, Space garners a respectable viewership.
Thanks. I am also a space nut. I grew up in Orlando, and I watched the Apollo / Saturn launches, as well as many of the Space Shuttle Launches. My uncle (who raised me) worked at Kennedy Space Center. Standing by to answer whatever I can...
My Uncle Ed worked for Douglas (quality control) and I still have some 8x10 glossy's of the Apollo Program he sent me. I was much younger then Interesting to see where the next gen propulsion systems take us. Literally !!
Hi Ed. Nice to have you aboard. I remember the thrill of watching the first man on the moon. Space has always been an interest of mine. Post anything of interest on WW2 or space. Your contributions are welcome.
Welcome aboard mate! Someone instantly to ask about this "emdrive" technology ive heard about...Liquid Hydrogen and electricity creating microwaves? True or shonk?
Welcome Ed. When you get settled in, I'd be delighted to hear more about the Good Conduct variation. Good to have you with us.
Good to meetcha, Ed. Jump on in; I look forward to your comments. Thanks for your service, also. Huntsville. Eat at Old Heidelburg?
