And this one will be starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. Not sure on details but it has something to do with the Air War. I thinks its called: "Wings of Eagles. If you know more--BITTE BITTE BITTE--please let me know more.
Also--anyone going to see "Gods and Generals?" I know it aint ww2 but--it still is a war movie Its the sequel to "Gettysburg" and IT DO LOOK GOOD.
Arnold? Something tells me that this is going to be a bad movie ( i.e. Wind talkers). Best regards/ Daniel
I'm going to see Gods and Generals (actually prequel to Gettysburg...covers 1st Manassas, Fredericksburg, and Chancellorsville) for sure. Been looking forward to this one for sometime. Re-read the novel a few weeks ago and I am currently plowing through James I Robertson's massive bio, Stonewall Jackson. From some of the comments of previewers, Stephen Lang (Genl Pickett from G-burg..who plays Genl Jackson in G&G) is phenomenal!!! Some have even claimed that if he doesn't win the Oscar, it will be a travesty. I personally doubt that he will get nominated just because war flicks tend to get ignored at the Oscars...there are exceptions I know. FYI, theatrical release has running time of approx 3 1/2 hours....DVD release later this year will be approx. 6 3/4 hours!!!!! That's gonna be alot of extra storyline added in for history freaks like us! I can't wait! One more thing, Ron Maxwell, director of G&G and G-burg, will film the final movie of the Jeff Shaara book of the same name, Last Full Measure. For those who haven't read that novel, it picks up the war with U.S. Grant's appointment as Commander-in Chief to Appomattox. ....Arnold in a WW2 movie??? That is scary!! [ 09. Guys, here's a link to a new WWII movie that was actually filming this past weekend in Salt Lake City, Utah. It features extensive use of WWII reenactors around the country. Check out this link for more details: http://www.thesaintsofwar.com/ Langemann [ 09. February 2003, 11:50 PM: Message edited by: Langemann ]
Charlie, While the Waffen-SS soldiers committed the atrocities that took place in this movie, there were thousands and thousands Heer troops near them and in the rear at the same time. I would believe that is why they're putting a call out for Heer reenactors as well as Waffen-SS reenactors. They're trying to re-create the bulge battlefield and the surrounding territory during and after the massacre. It would only make sense to have Heer troops as well. My .02 Langemann
All right then...Arnold saving POW´s...should have guessed! http://www.thearnoldfans.com/movies/wings/wings.htm STORY During the Second World War, an American bomber pilot and his crew are shot down from the sky and captured by the Germans. As orders are sent to execute the pilot and 9,000 other POW, the German officer in charge, Schwarzenegger, refuses to carry them out. STATUS When we last heard from Randall Wallace's camp on November 16th, 2001, the status of the Schwarzenegger WW2 drama "With Wings As Eagles" was made to sound like it would become history itself. Now, new promising word has been delivered to The ARNOLD FANs. "Randall Wallace's camp now says Randy plans to do "With Wings As Eagles" someday and he also considers it one of the best scripts he's written. He's holding on to it tight." With Wings As Eagles, written by Randall Wallace, is based on the true life story about a German officer who does not agree with his surrounding Nazi party and instead helps the American POWs escape. What a hero! http://www.corona.bc.ca/films/details/withwingsaseagles.html Project Phase: Development Hell. Who's In It: Arnold Schwarzenegger (unsigned).?? Who's Making It: Randall Wallace (Director, Screenwriter); Alan Ladd Jr., Randall Wallace (Producers). --------- Ha haa...here´s a great title from one site for Arnold: "Saturday Night Fuhrer." ( If some of you don´t remember the classic 70´s movie Saturday night fever...) -------- Well, maybe they´ll make a Skorzeny film one day. He´d be great for that, I think. And he could keep on saying "I´ll be back" after blowing one place after another... [ 10. February 2003, 09:56 AM: Message edited by: Kai-Petri ]
So far it doesn't sound like the greatest of films, but I might have to check it out either way....I'm just not a big Arnold fan..*lol* Il Duce
I would agree. This is a Blockbuster rental item for me. Also, as far as I can recall, there were no Heeres truppen in and around Malmedy, they were to the south with von Mantueffel's army. Dietrich's Army had no Wehrmacht troops with the exception of one volksgrenadier division. Anyway, they would not have been around that area. Perhaps a bit nitpicky but if accuracy is what the film makers are attempting, then they are way off already. Interesting to see nevertheless.
Thank you all for the info. Hi Daniel--I think it would be a natural fro Arnold to do it. There is a pic on the Wehrmacht forums that shows someone who (they arent pisitve) but the pic is of a Obergefrieter--that COULD be Arnolds father in German uniform in ww2. Ill see if I can find exactly where its located and let you know so you can judge for yourself. The man in that pic really does look like Arnold S. Thank you fro the great info Ivan--im also very into the Civil War--that was was my first "addiction" to history--well before ww2. Also I heard that Jeff Daniles was reprising his role of Col. Joshua Chamberlain as well as C.Thomas Howell reprising his role as Chamberlains brother. Even though I now cant stand Martin Sheen--I wish he would have reprised his role as General Robert E. Lee. I think Lee will be played by Robert Duval--and I saw a pic of him in costume and he LOOKS really good as the General. Your right though--I will get the DVD for the more historical parts. Darn though--I thought it was a sequel and not a prequel. Oh well, at least General Picketts Division will still be intact then I have to wait til I get to a better computer to try to attemt to look at the links you guys posted--this cheapo computer doesnt allow the flash to show Thank you Kai, your Der Linkmeister--as always "we" try to forget about Sat Night Fev JUST BECAUSE it is a war movie--im going to go see it.
Carl...you heard correct on Gods and Generals! Jeff Daniels and C. Thomas Howell are back. So is Brian Mallon who reprises Winfield Scott Hancock! You will see a few other familiar faces... the late Royce Applegate reprises Genl. Kemper. Applegate died in a house fire last month. Patrick Gorman returns as John Bell Hood, Cooper Huckabee returns as the spy Harrison, Kevin Conway as Sgt. Buster Kilrain, Chamberlain's 'advisor'...probably a few others, but the names aren't familiar to me. There are 150+ speaking roles in this flick!!!!!!!!!!!! Bruce Boxleitner assumes the role of Genl James Longstreet. IMO, he has tough shoes to fill as I thought Tom Berenger did a decent job. I originally hoped for Sheen (despite his liberal tendencies) to appear as Lee again and was a bit disappointed when I heard Robert Duvall got the role. Then I read that Duvall has always wanted to portray Genl Lee in some type of production and my hopes were then revitalized. Duvall has a passion for Lee and I think that he will get it right. Although I heard that Lee is not as prominent in the movie as he was in G-burg....maybe we will see more of him in the extended version. Read another rumor that the Director's Cut of Gettysburg will be released this fall on DVD when the Director's Cut of Gods and Generals hits the shelves.
A person from my civil war unit fought in the movie. I think they are gonna be filming the next one this summer. If so, I hope to go and take part in it. Whats the release date for G&G?
Wheres my Confederate battle flag icon?--Just kidding..... Thank you Ivan. Sorry to hear Applegate died--its also sad that Richard Jordan died when Gettysburg was filmed--or shortly after. He has always been a very good actor--check him out in Raise the Titanic.... Glad to see Conway reprise his role of that Union Sergeant. Yukkkkkkkkkkk-- Bruce Boxleitner as General James Longstreet? I agree with you--I think Tom Berringer was a great Longstreet--I think Brucie will foul that up. Robert Duval is a good actor and great to hear that one who is a fan of Lee--will be able to play him as he will do a good job on doing so. I hate it that Martin Sheen is a lefty--I do like his acting in the movies: The Final Countdawn, Enigma and Gettysburg. Shame he has always been a (as the Australians might say) a Wanker. Cant wait to see and be able to afford the Directors Cut for Gettysburg. I wish they would do one for Cross of Iron, too. I know--Sam Peckenpah died long ago--so that will not be able to happen. I thing G&G will be released in April?--not sure. In fact--isnt the trailers already in the theaters? As I dont waste big money on watching most new movies as soon as they come out (call me frugal these days) I usually wait to see it at the dollar cinema. BUT--G&G I might splurge to go see as well as Arnolds ww2 movie.
