Being filmed in Alabama around Mobile Bay: http://www.al.com/entertainment/index.ssf/2015/07/uss_indianapolis_men_of_courag.html#incart_river
Mind you... The photos of the Catalina on gtblackwell's site are NOT part of the movie... Catalina N85U, just after landing, took on water and sank during filming. All attempts to bring the aircraft to shore failed, and finally a crane barge was brought in to haul the PBY aboard. Unfortunately the PBY broke apart during the process. http://www.fox10tv.com/clip/11652968/world-war-ii-era-plane-breaks-during-salvaging-effort
Sorry to hear that ! It is a beautiful telephoto shot. I remember in the making of the full length movie "Memphis Bell" one of the B-17's crashed and burned. I thought the movie visually beautiful but the writers should have been put in a POW camp on bread and water....make that just water.. Thanks for the update. Gaines
While I am interested in the concept of a film about the Indianapolis, I was disheartened when I saw the name Nicholas Cage... :sunglasses-peek:
It would redeem the lost of the plane if he was in it when it sank ! ...............KJ Jr......too funny ! No self respecting shark would bite him
I hope it ends up being good and does the Indianapolis and her crew justice, in spite of Nicholas Cage being in it.
I can't believe you don't have more faith in the director of New Jack City and We the Party to do the story of the USS Indianapolis justice. After all, it seems that he's been practicing.
And in this too... and this is actually the only movie I know him from. How weird is that???? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0093300/?ref_=nm_flmg_act_74
They are working on Masters of the Air for HBO 8th AAF. I'm not real into another Indianapolis flick. I don't care if Cage is in it. There way too many bad actors out there who have Oscars and are lots worse. I find him entertaining, that's all I really need. I go to a movie to get lost in it, why I like Marvel superhero movies so much. I like Cage's movies and I hate Clooney.
I think I am going to be sick! WTF is that at 00:07????? Is it the South Indianapolis or is it the Idianapodakota...Looks like the CGI artists were forced to confuddle the heavy cruiser Indianapolis and one of the surviving So Daks or an Iowa class, because the movie was filmed on one of the surviving battleships. 00:35 Are those plastic model kits of B-29s? 00:46 & 00:58 I-58 is some bastardized cross between a US fleet boat and a German Type IX. 01:26 Is friggin hilarious. 01:42-01:48 Those are the cleanest shipwreck survivors I have ever seen. Perhaps, they have just gone for a swim and the ship has not actually sunk. 02:27 Oh goody! The obligatory love story... 02:33 Groundbreaking, Emotional, Riveting, Gripping, Intense...Those words certainly do not seem to describe this film at all. 02:37 Epic, Heroic, Brilliant, Stunning, Powerful...OK, they really failed the word association test again. 02:51 Before the sailor flips the girl she is a brunette, after she lands - she is a blonde. They should add "Perplexing" to their word associations... I rate this film....... 5 pukes out of 5. If I do see this film, and that is a big "if", I am guaranteed to throw up.
Man I sure hope not. Stranger things have happened though. Never can be too sure about anything Hollywood tries to pull out and pass for entertainment these days.
The trailer wasn't convincing and I doubt it will be any near as good as "Mission of the Shark: The Saga of the U.S.S. Indianapolis" from 1991. Also, Nicolas Cage has never been on my favorite actor's list and will never be. He is unfortunately that type of actor who only can play one type of character. I will, however, watch the film as it is a navy one.
Surprised no one's mentioned the article saying Indianapolis was "packed full of atomic bomb parts". She had carried bomb components to Tinian - under conditions of considerable secrecy I assume - but they had been offloaded. Her last voyage was as an ordinary cruiser returning to duty in the front lines.
