I am trying to reconstruct my father's military history. 1st question is : what does "2nd CC HMG" mean? It is under military qualification on his discharge paper.
    thanks in advance.

    Welcome to the forums!
I'll take a stab at "No2 crewman Heavy Machine Gun", but it is only a guess.

Glad to have you here. Can you post the whole discharge document? We have some smart people here who might be better able to help if the can see the whole thing.

Can't help with your question but want to welcome you to a great forum. I'd put my money on Gordon's guess- sounds pretty feasible.

The acronym would be properly expanded when we know what slot it filled. For example, "CC" could mean "Combat Command".

    And,

    Acronym

    Definition

    HMG

Holy Mother of God (Internet slang)

    HMG

    Her/His Majesty's Government (British Government)

    HMG

    Herring Media Group, Inc.

    HMG

    Happy Mardi Gras

So, if you don't have a scanner, take a picture with a cell phone and upload it here. If you have trouble with that PM me and I'll assist.

    First, welcome to the Forum.

As with most things, context is very helpful in interpreting meaning. Posting a copy of the discharge will make it much easier to help.

[I hope this can be viewed. any information and deciphering would be most appreciated.
in particular the military qualifications and the decorations and citations.
thank you! it took me awhile to figure out how to attach it, the file was too large.

Looking at the document you posted don't you mean American ?

I wanted to know what Army he served in as it'd help with the abbreviation you mentioned.

Good scan, perfectly readable. It's "2nd CG HMG", not "CC". That's as far as a Navy vet. can take it.

HMG might be Heavy Machine Gun.

You might want to consider posting this with a descriptive title in the information request subforum.

I'll give some of it a shot.
Box 31: Entitled to the Combat Infantrymen's Badge (see my sig for what it looked like), I think Sharpshooter on the M-1. Not sure of the 2nd, but I think HMG does refer to a Heavy Machine Gun.
Box 32: He was in one named campaign.
Box 33: Shows the awards he was entitled to. I'll try to show pictures of them later. I'm on my phone right now.
