I have been running across a number of very artistic Monuments where local cites and towns have obviously hired notable local artists in order to honour the sacrifice these young men made.

I am hoping a bit of research can come up with the names of the artists that created them.

Please add any you think worth of being added here.

To start - Found at: http://www.weerstationoirsbeek.nl/flypast-brunssum

Lancaster R5701 OF-Y lost in Denmark on a mission to Aachen Oct 5th 1942
P/O N. Jim Briant DFC KIA

    KIA Sgt J.R.Dawson KIA

Whitley Z6639 No 24 Operational Training Unit. From RAF Honeybourne Worcs

(I prefer the old pillar the memorial was on, more rustic and a lot more poignant.)

Not a bomber crew memorial. But worthy of including here.

    - This one is the Hamburg Fire Bombing Memorial. Very poignant. Very moving.

On Bardney village green there is a memorial to RAF Bardney and 9 Squadron.
    http://www.raf-lincolnshire.info/9sqn/9sqnmemorial.htm

(My family and I had many many friends from 9 Squadron, remembering they flew as sister squadron to 617 the Dambusters on many many missions...)

It is made from the three-bladed propeller and spinner from a Lancaster and a piece of Norwegian stone, mounted in a low wall.

The stone is from Kåfjord in Norway and marks the contribution of the Norwegian resistance in the Sqdn's attack against the German battleship Tirpitz.
This act is also recalled in a painting at RAFC Cranwell on the stairs leading to the College Hall Library.

Set into the wall is a plaque to the personnel in 9 Squadron.

57 Squadron Lancaster W4234 "V" for Victory Memorial St-Maria-Lierde (hamlet Kakebeke), Belgium

The memorial for the crew was erected in 2000.
Each year on a day in December close to the anniversary of the crash a short ceremony is organised.

    In my dreams...

Lancaster PA474 - Battle of Britain Memorial

PA474 flies over Derwent dam in the Peak District, to mark the 65th anniversary of the Dambusters raid.

(I have always wished that they would create a model and place it right here. What a sight that would be...)
