Yeah I've learned that over the years. I have a compact Yanmar 30 hp tractor that does a good job clearing the snow, (until "helpers?" compress the snow by driving over it sixteen times before I get to it), into 4" of ice. I don't usually worry about 'powder snow' turning slushy until April ! You couldn't make a snowball or decent Snowman up here if you tried. It's the 16 plus inch snowfall that makes me break out the 60" wide 22" tall snowblower.
We have so much water in the occasional snows we get, that when we make a snowball, it is as hard as cannon shot. It'll knock your brains out.
