The worlds oil supplies are depleting at a rapid rate and are expected to run dry in as soon as thirty years time... thats in my lifetime and I guess I should be a little bit worried. How do you think the world will change when all of our oil has gone?

Well the first thing to remember is that oil won't actually ever run out. We aren't going to see the day when the last black drop comes out and someone says "right that’s it we're screwed"

What you will see it the price steadily rise and eventually oil will become uneconomic. This rise in price will start to make other technologies attractive and they will start to take oils place. A case in point is the high fuel economy cars that are starting to enter the market.

Alternatively civilisation collapses and the few survivors find themselves Mad Max style wandering the wastes dressed in what looks suspiciously like leather bondage gear. :-?

    :D :p :D

they keep saying that oil will run out in the next 10 years

However everytime 10 years passes the price of oil go's up and technology increases.

this means that every 10 years more oil is accesable as it is both technological and financially possable to tap more difficult oil fields.

But obviously oil will not last for ever, I see it being replaced by grown oils such as alcholol, (Brazil use of a lot as a by product of their sugar beet) and sun flower or other specific oil crop. CHOOH2 anyone?

I`m not going to worry about it until it happens... Some say we only have 20 years left and some say we have 4200 years left. But thats what the scientists are for to find an alternative.
