On December 26th, 2011, my grandfather Dalvin S. Heilman, 11th Cav. past away. He was born Feb. 4th, 1914. He will be missed terribly. His Time in the Army brought him to Panama, where he met grandma, actually her horse bolted and he rode to her rescue. They are together now and I give my salute to a great and giving man, who served his country, his community, his neighbors and his family with honesty and integrity.

My condolences also, Sami. Do you have a picture of him when he was in the 11th Cavalry that you could post here?

May I also offer my condolences on your loss. And my respects to the "old horse soldier", your grandfather. May he ride full gallop into glory. :S!

Thanks to all for the kind words, He was a great roll model, loved his wife for 73 years, and was full of wisdom and a great since of humur. He got out of the Army and was a Canal Zone Police Officer the rest of his career. He was there from 1936 - 1965. I don't have a picture of him in the Army that I know of, I have to sort through his photo albums and see what is there.
Thanks again for your kind words!
    John
