One of my grandad was in a reserved occupation in the ship yards for most of the war but got called up in 1944.
He was in the process of being moved to the far East I believe and due to be part of the British forces involved in Operation Downfall (the invasion of the Japan).
However the Americans dropped the Atomic bombs and he lived another 30 years.

Salute to your Grandfather. It's good to be reminded that the Allies were working together to end this war.

And possibly just possibly, you are here with us because of the bombs. Your Grandad like mine and my dad were not needed after all...And many other folk are around today that otherwise may have not been born. Good to have you with us anyway B.E.

    Indeed.
They where expecting 2.5 million casualties so there is a good chance I may not have been here.

Kudos to your granddad for being available and to his not being needed. Glad you're around as a testament.

It has become very fashionable to say America should not have used atomic bombs in world war 2 but we need to remember how many lives it saved.
