K98 kicked like a mule ? funny I never thought of it that way nor experienced that with my ar 42. The only thing it needs is a nice little sight hood in the bright light conditions.......... a big boy toy that seems to be my personal first :
My wife's grandfather had a grenade go off in close priximity to his head (fortunately there as a large piece of steel between him and the blast.) He had permanent hearing loss from it that he knew it at the time. To get it checked out and compensated for would have required another 1-2 months of active duty at an Army hospital and we wanted to get home so badly, he kept his mouth shut and got on the train.
My K-98 is not that bad (on the kick), no more than my ought 3 Springfield that is. I always wear squish in (ear plugs) & phones over the top when shooting. After the first shot you remember to put them in/on. I save my ears for music. I do understand how "Cannon Cockers" especially, can loose all hearing in a very short time.
My top three AFVs: Pz VI Tiger, Pz V Panther and StuG III. My top three infantry weapons: MG42, MP44 and PPSh41. The Katusja(sp?) was certainly also an awesome weapon. /Kommando
Firearm: Thompson (Any version) Tank: PzKpfw V "Panther" Field piece: Flak 88 Aircraft: Avro Lancaster Ship: Iowa class battleship
no question the mg42 best machine gun ever! 1500 rounds a minute which makes it the fastest mg that I know of. i would like to know what mg is actually the fastest ever made cos im pretty sure that this is!
Here is a novel concept for some. Why not in addtion to listsing the oh so many "favorite" weapons why not give a little information as to why they are your "favorite". Since this thread is purely based on opinion.
Nukes included, it would probably be the Tsar Bomb :] Mommy, can I have one too? Everyone else is gonna have it on the block. Now if that was the case I wouldn't be running for the hills but rather running to moon!
My favorite would be the Fletcher Class Destroyers. Reason: They where huge compared to it's Japanese equivalents, pushing 2500 tons fully loaded. Fletchers saw use all the way untill Vietnam, and the last one was removed from active service in Mexico in 2002, giving them a service life of 60 years.
Well, my favorite weapon delivery sistem is the Tiger I why? Cause it's big, bulky and ugly... I really like it... Cheers...
PzKpfw VI Tiger It has a nice square-formed look to it. Its cannon is beautiful. And of course the main reason is because it was one of the more powerful tanks, capable of knocking out several enemy tanks. PzKpfw V Panther It looks good. Besides that it was definately the best tank of World War 2. It had sloped armor, good speed, a strong gun and it was not as expensive to produce as the Tiger. StuG III It was probably Germany's most cost-effective tank destroyer. Besides that I think it looks good, as the two above. MG42 The MG42 was strong, had a fast rate of fire and was both easier and cheaper to produce than its predecessor, the MG34. MP44 If I was an infantryman during World War 2, I would have wanted to wield this weapon. It was a very good all around weapon, that could be used both in close combat and at a distance. PPSh41 It was an excellent weapon for close quarters fighting, having a drum mag with 71 rounds. Katusja Simply because of the devastation it could cause. /Kommando
Try telling that to the German mechanics! Oh and by the way, the MG42 was more expensive than the MG34.
The Panther had mechanical problems at first, but they were fixed by 1944. Really? I read in a book that the MG42 was both easier to produce and cheaper. Could you provide sources? /Kommando
I heard the MG42 was cheaper to produce also from several places over the years. And you cant beat its rate of fire. 'Hitlers Buzz Saw' I have to go with the Tiger Tank. Just look at the thing, it's a monster. As far as fighters go, I have to go with the P-51 Mustang, with the F4U Corsairs a close second. BAR is the best rifle, and the best machine gun is the Browning .50 which I have fired and is still in use.
