Just conquered Russia ( Moscow ) on Playstation I version of Panzer general I...

I know it´s old and a one-colour game but I never did finish it when it was first released so I had to play it now that I found it again..

    ;) [IMG]

    Hey Kai,

My all-time favorite game! Finished it several times although I must admit it gets a little far fetched in the invasion and capture of Washington D.C..

I was wondering, have you ever tried to play Allied General from the Russian side? Only part that frustrates me, I can't seem to figure out how to succesfully defend Moscow.

Also, why have you not finished PG1 yet? Time constraints?

    Hello JPatterson!

The graphics may not make an impression but the gameplay is demanding. I did try hard several times when I first got it but not until I read that you have to get the Ju88´s ( or other big bombers )upgraded and bomb the cities to get the points off the enemy to weaken him enough that I have managed to get past sections like Stalingrad or Moscow 1941 with a major victory.

Compared to panzer general II it is much harder as you lose the upgrade if the enemy can strike your veteran units, while in PGII the upgrade always was there when you moved onto the next scene.

Unfortunately I have only played the German side so far, so I don´t know about the Russian defence system on Moscow, at least not yet. And still going for the US later on with my Wehrmacht. In PG II with the upgraded tanks and planes the US invasion ws quite easy, I think. All in all PG I seems much harder.

    ;)

    Kai,

I agree that PGI was much more difficult. However, I won the game several times without having a single JU-88 unit, or any other strategic bomber unit for that matter. I concentrated on constantly upgrading my units in this order: Fighters, Tac Bombers (Stukas), Tanks and finally infantry. Doing this seemed to make my blitzkrieg unstoppable. A StukaD unit at 13,14 or 15 can really soften up any enemy for you. Try it and let me know how it works.

Oh, and what I mean by upgrading is that you should try to figure out how many turns you need to beat a scenario in. Say a particular scenario requires that you beat it in under 12 turns. In that case, you need to try to beat it in 9 or 10 and use your last few turns to spend your prestige purchasing overstrength points for your best units.
