Hello, I work as a sculptor and I made a model of Patton, but I am having a very difficult time understanding if the rank insignia I put on Patton's sleeve is correct. I made his sleeve with four across and four down, which was based on Patton's sleeve in the picture where he is pissing in the Rhine, but someone told me that this is not right and doesn't make sense. I know he commonly had five across and four down, but I wanted the model to represent this approximate time. So, my question is: is this right? And, if so, what in does this even mean? I really tried to figure this out, but I just couldn't make sense of it and military rank insignia is not something I am familiar with, so I am sorry if you feel like I am wasting your time. I really did try. View attachment 17332
I'm not sure of your question, but the horizontal hash marks each represent six months of overseas duty, and each diagonal stripe represents three years of service. You'll need to calculate the service Patton had at the time so the hash marks are correct. According to this website, as an officer, Patton did not have authorization to wear service stripes. Yes! Thank you. Your link answered my question. I was confusing rank insignia with the overseas service stripes for WWI and WWII. Now it finally makes sense. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
