Hey guys, forgive me if there is already a thread on this subject.I have several photos of my grandfather that are somewhat "smudgie".Of particular interest to me is the photo I have on my"home"page on this Site. There seems to be a large"patch"on his upper left shirt sleeve.Do any of you guys have some software that can clean this photo up to possibly reveal what this is.?If you do ,please feel free to copy it etc,if you can help me.All help would be greatly appreciated in filling in a few gaps I have on his war-postwar movements between units. Thankyou in advance,Lee.

A few years back a gentleman who flew as a waist gunner gave me a copy of his crew photo. Is was a bit degraded so I took it to a local pharmacy that had a machine that would 'sharpen up such a photo. Turned out pretty decent. Perhaps a photo shop near you can do the same thing?

I tried to use it, Lee, but the resolution is just not good enough to see anything once it is enlarged. I wished that I could help you. I'd love to get my scanner over there, it does a great job of enlarging.

    4th wilts,
I've been playing with the photo on 'Picasa' trying to edit and tweak the tone, contrast, tint, bla-bla-bla and I'm going to take the World record long shot -slash- wild guess, and ask if anyone knows if the British had an insignia with a Camel on it? It is very washed out but I was able to - barely see - what looks like - a white "blob", in a - 'somewhat' shape - of what - 'could be' maybe a camel?
How's that for a not much help, most likely totally not even close answer? I'll still work on it and maybe my daughter who has a regular photo enhancement/manipulation program may be able to help.

Lee, could you post any units/divisions he was in? We may be able to narrow down something using that. I have found a few British patches that do have animals on them but the shapes were not "just" right.
Well not exactly the 'shapes' since I couldn't really see much more than a 'blob' like I mentioned above. Kind of hard to compare a 'blob' with a 'shape' and a 'sorta looks like' :)

Hey guys, the only thing I can find is G.H.Q.middle east command. Now i know that the 27th L.A.A.regt was out there, but he joined when that regt was in england, and I cannot think why middle east command would be sewn onto his shirt sleeve, lol. The regt in question was independent,or were corps troops, which i believe meant it was attached or moved to larger formations.? I have seen it attached to xxx corps in different O.O.B's from Africa to N/W Europe, but it would be good to know which divisions,if any,or A.A.Bde's it did serve with.?Reading material seems somewhat sparse, can anyone point me in the right direction please.?Does anyone know if this regiment had any formal or informal insignia.? Sewing seems to be happening alot in the army anyway.Cheers,4th.
