I heard the Smithsonian was planning to buy them with money borrowed from the Chinese but their markets are blowing up so I guess some rich Canadian will end up with them. But will they withstand freezing ????

I will stick with my old 1992 Sig 228 from Germany for wich I paid the grand sum of $575 .The gun dealer told me a Mennonite had traded it in. Close enough for me, a sacred gun :)

It can be colder than space itself here at times...Canadians can't possess sacred guns without an expensive permit.

You Americans are really obsessed with guns. No wonder we constantly hear on the news that some idiot killed dozens of children in a school...

A year ago, this Mexican cartel guy was standing about 150 yards out in the greasewood at dusk with a band of packers hunkered down in the brush behind him. He's a got a rifle on a tactical sling, slung across the front of his body. Guns are illegal in Mexico, but it's likely an AK brought in from Eastern Europe. That's the cartel favorite. He's making gestures at me. He may want my car, or he may want my life. These people are often carrying huge loads of serious drugs and two people in this remote valley have been killed by them in the last few years.

He and his packers went away when I picked up the AR15 and held it so he could see I was armed. Just inside the door behind me was a FAL G1 loaded with 150 grain soft points to cut through the brush, if needed. The AR is good for quick, accurate shooting, the FAL is for more serious work if they decided to lay down and shoot it out.

The county police from Bisbee (100 miles away) arrived 90 minutes later.

Some years ago when I lived in Alaska a friend shot about 900 pounds of grizzly bear off of me with a .300 mag, absolutely saving my life.

Obsession? Perhaps, but like seat belts or airbags you may not need them often, but when you do, you need them badly.

America has the biggest army in the world. Why do you send your troops to foreign countries to "solve" their problems and conflicts when you have so much s*it to take care off in your own?

Maybe we should invade Mexico? The women are beautiful and the food can't be beat. Oh, and the beaches, can't forget the beaches.

I haven't meant invading Mexico. I meant that you should send some troops on the border and control the smuggling. But on the other hand maybe you should invade Mexico because you're well experienced in invading other countries.

How did this go from "interesting off-topic thread" to "nauseating critique of American culture and role in the world"?

Seriously my friend, calm down. If you want to debate politics do it in the proper place.

I'm sorry but you can't talk about guns without referring to America and especially when it's coming from the US gun maker.

There are numerous threads about firearms on WW2F that have no reference to politics. Open a gun control thread in the Stump if you want to get into a debate.

As to the women, food, and beaches...I'd go to Hawaii - But, skip the Poi.

Then you are not talking about guns...your talking about politics.

If your talking about Glocks, there is no reason to refer to America, if you are talking about Nambu pistols there is no reason to refer to America, if you are talking about Mosin-Nagants there is no reason to refer to America, etc.

.....made out of Namibian meteorite. Perhaps we should start discussing this blatant theft of Namibian heritage, or the negative impact of its mining industry on the environment?

It's only legend, but it is "said" that David Bowie's famous knife was made of iron/nickel meteorite.
