Is there any significant difference between the two?

The other is a jet and the other is not.

So, a turboprop takes in air, mixes it with fuel and then uses the energy to turn a propeller while pistons move the propeller under their own power?

Well, they both take air, mix it with fuel, ignite it and use the energy to turn a propeller...

one is a turbine engine ..(fans on a spindle compressing gas into a venturi ,like a jet ) the other is reciprocating (pistons turning a crankshaft..like in your car)

Tu-95 is unofficially the fastest (turbo) prop driven aircraft with 575 mph...Tu-114 (the passenger liner based upon the Tu-95) is the fastest officially with 545.07 mph !
Or somebody know a faster one?

BTW Great news now we can intercept those beautiful aircraft once more :smok:

    .

Great planes never die , There was a TV program about the B-52 a couple of years back , a pilot was saying his grand father flew them then his father and now he did
apparently more than half of the tonnage dropped during the first gulf war was from B-52s

didn't the DC-3 was dragged back for duty as a gunship ? and if yes is there still some on active duty ?

Yes, but that was (IIRC) during the Vietnam War. The job is now being done by converted C-130 Hercules

    C-130 'Spectre' has, I think, a 105mm howitzer, a 40mm cannon, a 20mm cannon and a couple of 7.92 miniguns.

Well, there is/(was?) actually two-three different kind of C-130 gunships, AC-130A Spectre, AC-130H Spectre and AC-130U Spooky.
AC-130A was armed with 20mm cannon and 7.62mm miniguns
    AC-130H is armed with 2x M61 Vulcans (20mm), 1x 40mm Bofors and 1x 105mm howitzer.
    AC-130U is armed with 1x GAU-12 25mm gatling gun, 1x 40mm Bofors and 1x 105mm howitzer.

That kind of armament I could find with 1 minutes of googling. Not sure if that AC-130A armament is accurate.

my dad used to watch spooky hose the perimeter at cu chi almost every night ..he said the noise is not like gunfire at all ..more like a sound or tearing fabric except really deep and loud , a roar ,if a machine was roaring......it was a c47 (dc3 ) with 3 miniguns named "puff, the magic dragon "
