These last pictures only prove that a Tiger is ugly any way you look at it :D

not that it is going to matter nor ever done but really getting theTiger back close to some original paint/camo scheme of the SS Schwere Pz Abt. 102 would not be that hard. there is plenty of photo evidence at our fingertips

she may be ugly but she was a terror

I look at Martin's picture, and I immediately imagine myself peeking over the lip of a cold, wet, clammy foxhole....... gripping my piddly little M-1 in shaking hands....jeeze-o-pete!....how would you STOP something like that!

    ....what a fearsome beast!

    Of course I'm joking!

Sandblasting this awful paint scheme and restoring an accurate one would be of course possible but somebody would have to come up with the wherewhithal.

Excellent suggestion, Za! That would make a wonderful 'Forum Project'. Since it was your idea, why don't you take this one on!

    Okay....moving down the agenda, we've got....let's see.....ah, yes!

'The Lancaster Restoration'...... we need to find an old Lancaster.... pick it up on the cheap, and restore it to pristine 'Dam Busters' configuratiion....

Martin....judging by your Guy Gibson signature line quote, this little project would probably be a good fit for you.

Okay, gentlemen, that about sums up everything on MY agenda....

....this has been a good thread.... I think we got some things done....

...I'll be looking forward to hearing your reports next month!

    -whatever

that's a great pic coming off the turret, i wonde if anyone knows the specifics of the battle that left this machine here, or did i read in this thread earlier, that it simply ran out of fuel and was abandoned?

Various books have it running out of fuel, one or two German accounts I have read cite problems with the engine oil system - one book claiming that this Tiger had 'a history of problems'.....

Several Tigers conduct a counterattack from Vimoutiers to Trun, engaement near Champosoult, several enemy tanks destroyed. 1 Tiger of Reisske which suspiciously used to be in need of constant repairs, often due to technical failure, suffers a piston jam which was caused by the lack of motor oil and is left behind at Vimoutiers.......

gents do we know the turret number assigned to this particular vehicle ?

..personally I think bright sunlight gives the beast an almost 'toy-like' quality ...I prefer the 'damp' look..

An enemy tank along that last set of trees......would that be an easy shot? Hard to tell the yardage from the picture.

Firing a PzGr39 anti-tank shell, the Tigers' 88mm KwK 35 L/56 gun was capable of penetrating 100mm of armour at 1,000 metres. The optics were impressive for the time, too - so I wouldn't like to be in a Sherman on the other side of the valley.....:(

The square design is perplexing in it's application as armour what were the designers smoking, maybe they thought it's massive amount of armour thickness would shrug off what the allies could develop. but it's still a thing of bueaty , so simplistic yet harboring one of the most feared weapons on the battlefield. Im not sure how the crack on the rear of the turret got there, be interesting to found out how if anyone has any ideas ?

The Germans were indeed applying thickness of armour - the Tiger II showed that lessons of sloping armour had been taken on board....

I've read somewhere that the cracked turret was possibly caused by detonation of the demolition charge when the tank was abandoned.....
