Can anyone point me in the right direction. My Grandad on my mothers side was Scottish. He was in N. Africa and Italy and all I know is this-A) He had something to do with a tank/armoured regiment and B) at some point he was in Taranto where my father was from and was living at the time. I would really like to find out which regiment he was with so i can try and track his movements. I feel that they should not be forgotten and a little bit of research is the least I could do to say thank you. Can anyone tell me where to start?

    Hello Vincenzo,
Sketchy stuff I'm afraid, as I believe Taranto was a port of passage for many many units working their way up Italy. I think 4th armoured Brigade may have engaged from there (but don't quote me, that's from memory).
Do you have any other scraps of info at all? a name, Service numbers, photos, anything at all, even the smallest detail, might help the chaps who are good at this stuff to begin zooming in.

Also, it might be worth you asking on sister site World War 2 Talk (which I must confess I administrate - both sites are owned by the same bloke), as there's a concentration of chaps there who have more specialised knowledge on this sort of commonwealth stuff.

    Good luck,
    ~Adam.
