My grandfather served in WWII. I have his DD-214. It states on the 214 that he was assigned to the 451st Amphibian Truck Company. He was awarded the Asia-Pacific Theater Medal w/2 Bronze Stars, Phillippine Liberation Medal w/1 Bronze Star & Bronze Arrow Head, Good Conduct Medal, WW II Victory Medal, Soldiers Medal, and The Bronze Star Medal. His name was S/Sgt James Glenn Honeycutt, Army Number 34313287. Now I know what all the medals are and his rank and under stand the DD-214. My question is... What, Where, When, and Who is the 451st Amphibian Truck Company??? Can't find anything online that is remotely close to it. I don't know where to start to look for it either. I have looked everywhere, Im no Military Buff but I'm trying. I don't know what Infantry Unit/Number it falls under, I don't know anything except what I have given you. I want to research it and make a shadow box as I did for my other Grandfather but with no avail. ANYTHING, I mean ANYTHING will help. Please help. Any information is much appreciated in advance. I'm wondering if the Unit changed names after a move or if it's lost history or what I'm doing wrong.

I have strong suspicions that 451st was the unit he was in when he mustered out but not the unit he served with during the war.
The 451st served in Europe and it appears that your grandfather was in the Pacific.

I'm on my phone, so replies from will be brief. I will add more later.

Hi Rob. Welcome to the forum Making a shadow box is a good thing. Let me get you started.

    Asian-Pacific Ribbon:

[IMG] His would have two small bronze campaign stars.

    Philippine Liberation Ribbon:

[IMG] His would have one small bronze campaign star and a small bronze arrowhead for an invasion.

Can you scan and post a copy of his DD-214? It would help if we could see it.

The Unit Citations and Campaign Credit Register indicates the 451st received credit for the Luzon and Northern Solomons campaigns. It also says they were credited with participating in the assault landing at Lingayen Gulf, PI, 9 Jan 45, WD GO 109-46 and were awarded the Philippine Presidential Unit Citation for 7 Dec 41 - 10 May 42 or 17 Oct 44 - 4 Jul 45 DA GO 47-50

WD GO 109-46 = War Department General Orders 109, 1946

DA GO 47-50 = Department of the Army General Orders 47, 1950

I know very little about the Pacific so some of the forum experts in that theater should be along to help fill in units the 451st were attached to.

Welcome to the forum and good luck with your research.

Natman right on the money. Those campaigns were listed in the newspaper article when he received his Bronze Star Medal.

If you open a free account at an image hosting site like photobucket or imageshack it's easy to copy and paste scanned photos, etc. to this site.

Rob, you should be able to post photos. Use the "More Reply Options" in the lower right and then the "Attach Files" on the lower left. Post as many as you can. There are file size limits on individual photos and number per post,

It is going to be hard to determine his unit history since most personnel records were burned in a fire in the early 1970s. But there are other ways. Was he wounded or did he go through the VA system?

I saw that and thought it gave campaigns for Northwest Europe. I was reading in low light, perhaps I read the wrong line. You are certain? I will look again tonight.

Jeff, I think you're right. Everything I've seen for the 451st is in Europe. I'm very confused.
