"After the war, some countries chose to equip their armies with cheap and reliable Stuarts. The Republic of China Army, having suffered great attrition in terms of armors as a result of the ensuing civil war, rebuilt their armored forces by acquiring surplus vehicles left behind in the former PTO by the US forces, including 22 M5A1s to equip two tank companies. They would have their finest hours during the Battle of Kuningtou, for which the participating armored unit was given the title "Bear of Kinmen" (金門之熊). The M5 played a significant role in the First Kashmir War (1947) between India and Pakistan, including the battle of Zoji-la pass at an incredible altitude of nearly 12,000 ft. The vehicle remained in service in several South American countries at least until 1996.
During the 60s and 70s, the Portuguese Army also used some in the war in Angola, where its all terrain capability (compared to wheeled vehicles) and fire power were greatly appreciated."

Renowned military-vehicle dealer Mike Stallwood, has pulled off an incredible coup and imported 16 WWII-vintage M3 Stuarts tanks from Brazil. One would think that, 63 years after the end of the conflict, the chances of discovering a large cache of WW2 military vehicles—let alone tanks—in reasonably good condition would be virtually zero. But that is exactly what Mike Stallwood of RR Motor Services has done. Almost single-handedly he has extracted 16 M3 Stuart light tanks from the wilds of Brazil, and brought them to the UK.

The tanks formed part of a consignment gifted to Brazil by the US Army between 1942 and 1945. Some 30 years ago, 40 of those remaining were sold as surplus to a Brazilian businessman who, although there wasn’t the interest in vintage military vehicles that there is now (and none at all in Brazil), recognized their potential as historical artifacts. In the intervening years, some were disposed, but in September 2007, Mike received a tip that there might be a sizeable number left. Within 10 days, he was on a plane to Brazil. There he discovered, on a remote ranch some 125 miles north of São Paulo, an amour eldorado.

I haven't actualy been to see these tanks, but I have been to Mike Stallwoods place on several occasions, his people were very helpful when I was doing a detailed study of Israeli M51 tank.

The M3s by the look of them are what are now known as "M3 hybrids" -they were an M3 built from components of M3 and M3A1 tanks (at least one is a standard M3 however). Bovington Tank Museum received one approx 1989, as a gift from the Brazilian govt. M3 hybrids were used for military aid and some got as far as New Zealand, where much of the research into the type originates.

I just hope that the present finacial conditions do not cause a collaspe in the market as happened in 1985 with the M4A1 Grizzlies imported from Portugal.
