I'm looking for information about the POW camps in Nebraska 1944-45, ideally info related to the camp in Weeping Water. I know the prisoners were paid for their labor on the farms, and that they could spend those wages in town. Many prisoners returned to the area after the war: Kimmel Orchards in Nebraska City was purchased by a former prisoner. That suggests to me that their lives were relatively relaxed, as if everyone was just waiting for the fighting to be over so they could get back to their lives. The Cass County Historical Society has plenty of info about the camp prior to it becoming a POW camp, but little of its military use. There's general info online, but few specifics about daily life. Anyone know anything about it, or have resources to point to?appvalley tutuapp tweakbox
