Protect Yourself: Venereal Disease Posters of WWII I was in Washington D.C. last year doing research at the National Archives and stumbled upon a folder containing countless 35mm slides of WWII-era VD posters. Sensing that this subject matter had never been given a proper showcase I decided to give it a shot of bringing them to a wider audience. This book was self-published and not too widely available as I self distribute. I only printed 250 due to cost considerations. Website
The subject was actually wideley mentionned abroad , as V.D. cases was an army's nightmare. (Soldiers unable to fight and costing money to heal them). This is why they had specific brothels in, so officials could at least try to control the situation. Anti V.D. cream and condoms were part of supplies. During D-Day, the G.I. 's even put condoms on they guns to protect those from sea water.
Did not know that about condoms on guns. That is very interesting (and quite germane to my project.) Thanks Skipper.
