    W. D. Tyler Killed at Manila

    Mrs. Betty Tyler, 942 Magnolia. was informed Monday by the War department that her husband, Pvt. Willie D. Tyler, 22, son of Mr. and Mrs- Bill Tyler, had been killed in action at Manila March 10. In service since May 13, 1943, Tyler had been overseas since sometime in July 1944. He was in New Guinea before going to the Philippines- He was stationed at Ft. Riley, Kans., and Ft. Ord, Calif., before leaving for overseas duty. Born in Jones county, Tyler had lived most of his life in Abilene. Prior to entering service, he was a mechanic here. He is survived by a daughter, Carol Dee, about 20 months old. He has a sister Rachel Tyler, at home, and a half-brother, Pfc. John Henry Tyler, somewhere in Germany.

    "Another Bronze star will go to Mrs. Betty Tyler. 1418 Cottonwood, for her husband Pvt. Willie D. Tyler, who died in action in the Philippines when he crawled forward from his cover to an exposed position to administer first aid to his wounded squad leader."
