Do someone know more about the today feasibility of the details for this project? Essentially, it meant to flood the qattara depression with mediterranean waters through an artificial canal and turn the depression into a giant salt water lake. Similar to the industry on the Dead Sea, Variations of the project suggests that the proposed lake are sectioned so controlled evaporation of water inside a section provide minerals from saltwater and soil leaching. At the bottom of the depression, some minerals may lie. The flooding allows solution and leaching. As the climate is dry around the depression, evaporation help to put moisture in the air. Furthermore, the flooding is likely to decrease the global water level by about 2 mm.
