Buckingham Palace has said it is disappointed that footage from 1933 showing the Queen performing a Nazi salute has been released.
The Sun has published the film which shows the Queen aged about seven, with her mother, sister and uncle.
The palace said it was "disappointing that film, shot eight decades ago... has been obtained and exploited".
The newspaper has refused to say how it got the footage but said it was an "important and interesting story".

....after a few difficult years when they were rightly caught out when over-stepping the limits of acceptable press freedoms into outright criminality (hacking), here 'The Sun' are cannily 'reasserting' their 'freedom' to print whatever during the quiet 'silly' period...press freedom in action right there! Can you imagine any (for example) French print media doing anything remotely similar..not on your life!

otherwise, a total non-story... who didn't give a Nazi salute in the period following Hitler's accession to power..

Usual crock of sh*te from The Sun. There are already umpteen online petitions calling for a boycott.

The Clivenden Set were thoroughly discredited by Sept. 1939, so any connection between that little kid and the Nazis would have been extremely unlikely.

I remember playing soldier just after the war, well the one this forum is largely devoted to, and we divided into Nazis and Americans ......in our young remote Alabama minds all Germans were Nazis then and all soldiers were Americans, much like all German cannon were 88's and all Shermans burn easily. We used the German "salute" all the time, well if you were playing German or Nazi that day. It took a few years of reading old Time and Like magazines to realize who the Allies and Axis really were. I do remember seeing Churchill inn Newsreels , how could you not.

The Brits have the Sun, we have the National Enquirer.....totally a non story other than one on the sorry state of current news .

An interesting history curio...and one that should be a lesson to all...Do your homework before jumping on a bandwagon...if the Royal family was fooled, what hope for the German people...?

I don't believe many people will heed any attention to this trash news anyway. It's freedom of press but it's our freedom to prefer the Queen as an ambulance driver during the war.

well said Skip...on the other hand, as Roger Moorhouse has just tweeted " Royal Family, Nazis ? Karina Urbach's new book 'Go-betweens for Hitler' is very timely..."
