Wasn't quite sure as to where to stick this one, so mods please feel free to move the thread into its proper home (if needed Ofcourse ) I found this quite entertaining and I wasn't the only one. Strong language. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=itmpL2XJ6qM - Video Tube for YouTube - iPhone/iPad That's something that you don't exactly see everyday. Glad no one was hurt.
I also loved the soldiers reaction. Can't say that my reaction would have been any different. What a show!
Three destroyed vehicles, a fire and a bill for the U.S. taxpayer. It's still worth the show, at least people people have fun when their money is wasted.
You'd all be surprised at how frequently something like this actually occurs. However, three during one drop is unusual. I've seen similar failures numerous times, the scariest was when they dropped an M-551 Sheridan, not even partial canopy, it came screaming in and looked like it exploded when it hit the deck. Huge chunks of metal and parts flying everywhere. Lucky no one was killed. Buried that sucker in the dirt.
I have seen a 155MM dropped from a sling load under a CH53. It happens frequently enough that they call it: "Lawn Darting"
Oshkosh B'Gosh! But how does it handle in the air? Is that beast in service yet? Glut of HMMVs due for the US surplus market?.. Only slightly sand-soiled.
That looks way better than the current...better designed in every way...id like those front windows to be angled though....
Humvee's haven't been the primary tactical combat vehicle for some time now. I remember when the younger son was in Afghanistan back in 2010, Humvee's were pretty much delegated to on base use only. The Marine Corps was using the M-ATV. and the US Army was using thier version of the M-ATV and MRAP's Army M-1117 MRAP
The apparent worldwide growth in those wheeled things makes me smile. Maybe the Sovs had a point all along with BTR etc.
I saw that clip on the news. It was just as amusing this time, although the cost is pretty high. Like Slonik, I didn't realize this occurred so frequently.
