I found a copy of this book marked Wal-Mart two for a dollar, so I guess that it was sold a while ago. But seriously if you have not read it, give it a try, The author Stephen Crane never was in combat but his brother was, and He told him lots of stuff from civil war battles.Vets agree that the novel is very true to life, and reflects what it was like to be in the ACW. The black and white movie version has Audie Murphy playing Henry Flemming.Ironis for the most decorated American GI of ww2 to play the part of a young soldier who skedadled in the face of enemy fire. the film also features Bill Mauldin, ww2's greatest cartoonist , and Andy Divine. get the book read it, rent the film. You wont be sorry
I've seen the movie; it's very good for its time, and Audie Murphy is, of course, an excellent soldier. I have also seen the TV remake with Richard Thomas in the lead role.
