I noticed there's been some interest on here recently about German helmets, so I thought I'd post a picture of mine....

Actually, it's been up in the attic for a long time - I literally had to blow the dust off it. It's one of my very first pieces of WWII militaria bought on my first solo trip to the Ardennes ( which I'm horrified to realise was 21 years ago !). I stopped at a shop in Bastogne which had a load of stuff for sale, including a box of 'rust' brought in by a local farmer who had been clearing land. Amongst it was this relic helmet.....

I think I paid the equivalent of about £15 for it....it's obviously very 'relic' ; I cleaned off most of the rust ; the rivets were just unsightly rusty blobs which I drilled out and replaced with repro items bought at the Beltring fair. Of course, I wish I could go back in time and buy everything in the shop but I'm older, wiser, and have a little more spare cash now ! ;)

It still has the size marking and the interior band - I'm happy with it because the famous shape is still 'all there' and once again - it's a relic of 1944.....

    Another fantastic item, Martin.

Can the manufacturer code and size stamp still be seen on the inner rim ?

The size stamp can just be made out and seems to be '60' - sadly, some vestiges of the manufacturer stamp can only just be seen under strong magnification but the rust has made them illegible.....:(

    Nice helmet, Martin!

I had a friend at school once who brought a WWI helmet to class with a bullet hole in it. Chilling!

Another friend of mine has a reproduction German helmet.

A great item Martin. You'd pay a lot more for these now, even rusted!

Can you post some photos of your 'auntie dolly's' hanging baskets, I would be interested in seeing them?

I saw one in not much better condition last week in a flea market in France and they wanted 120 euros for it.
