God, I love British eccentrics! "A remarkable near life-size model of a German First World War plane which was built by a late engineer in his back garden has emerged for sale. The silver and black Fokker Eindecker E.III has been fitted with a Reliant Robin engine and can be taxied, although it cannot fly. The 17ft plane has a 28ft wingspan and is made from aluminium tubing. Tragically, its creator Ian Brewster was killed in a light aircraft crash in a field in north Hertfordshire last June. Mr Brewster built cars and planes in his awning in the back garden of his Welwyn Garden City home. It is believed that he was flying one of his planes when it came down in a field in Luffenhall at about 10am on June 20. The 72-year-old suffered ‘severe multiple injuries’ and died at the scene. The Fokker model is part of his deceased estate which is being sold by his children. It is tipped to sell for £400 at auction tomorrow. Claire Hayter, from Sworders, of Mountfitchet, Essex, who are selling the plane, said: 'The Fokker was built by an engineer in the awning in his garden." www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5381909/WWI-plane-replica-Reliant-Robin-engine-sale.html#ixzz56x6CHOtO
Sorry, but I'm going to keep saving up for that UBoat river barge instead. I'm itching to do a little commerce raiding this summer.
