Hey all - is anybody up for re-starting these games? Ideally we would need at least 2 competing teams and 1 judging team, though obviously the more the merrier. I personally found this game to be challenging, lots of fun, and surprisingly educative about WW2 AFVs, so it is worth doing, even if you don't think you know much about tanks. Please submit any expressions of interest...
Yeah I'm up for it (lots of free time on my hands again...) So long as you stop claiming it's "educational". WE DO THIS FOR FUN!
No, remember, we have to maintain that this site and everything related to it is educational, otherwise it won't be allowed on school computers! I also found this game a great deal of fun to play, but for the moment I'm not sure if I have time for it. If this is a thing for the long run then I am definitely interested in taking part in it again.
I would most definitely be up for another game. It would be nice to expand the game to include other areas as well, like ships and planes. Much more technical of course, but maybe there will be some forgiveness in designs (I don't know how much wingspan a bomber would need to carry a 12,000lb bomb load, etc etc)?
Bombload is roughly (very roughly) about 1/3 to 1/4 of total maximum take off weight (I'll check some of my spreadsheets/ databases). All you need then is to look at typical wing loadings in lb/sq ft for bombers and check against max altitude and power loadings. Once you know wing area then span would be area/aspect ratio (the higher the aspect ratio the better the take-off performance and ceiling in general). I don't think we'd bother asking which airofoil section you specified for the design which would also play a part IIRC the original game setup did mention extending to warships and aircraft, and I kept meaning to do an aircraft requirement (so The Toastinator could get involved), but I also kept forgetting to do it...
I'm in! Perhaps Zhukov and Oli could submit something for the last game, which only has one submission as of now? I would be happy to judge.
Oops. Can I delay until Saturday? - dad's in hospital in another town with throat cancer and I'm the one that's driving everyone there and back to see him.
An Avro Landcaster would do it fairly easy I believe. And as far as the games go, I'm in. I'm not available on weekends though, and with the lack of decent connection over the summer (dial-up) I might have to drop out depending where I am.
Welcome aboard! Good to see fresh blood with an interest in this game. Don't worry about not being available all the time - deadlines are usually very flexible.
Good point. Landcaster came to mind because they wer the only bombers in thier time that could carry and drop the 'Grand Slam' bombs (10 tons)!
