I've been waiting for the third book to Rick Atkinsen's war trilogy and about to give up hope--what happend?
"Army at Dawn" published in 2002 and "Day of Battle" published 2007 were excellent accounts.
It's been 5 years --has he given up?

Apparently, eagerly awaited too! The first two were excellent!

I agree. The first two were tremendous. I can't wait for the last one to come out. I'll have to reread the first ones, though.

Thanks for the link. I usually research a bit before I start asking questions but totally missed this site.
Now if the Mayan calender is wrong this gives us something to look forward to. :p

Just clicked of the list of manuscripts and unpublished documents Mr. Atkinsen used for his "Day of Battle". No wonder it takes him 5 years to complete a book--it would take me that long to jusr read that much source material.

I wouldn't worry about the Mayan calendar thing. My theory is that the guy making the calendars took a coffee break after finishing the year 2012. While he was standing in line at Starbucks, the Spanish showed up. Needless to say, he never finished his double mocha chai skim macchiato.

I read both and was rather disappointed. Too much narrating, too little explaining. Too much focus on individual soldiers, too little on strategy and tactics.

And that's why they make chocolate and vanilla.

Personally, I like vanilla with chocolate swirls. :yum:

He has an extreme liberal bias in is writting, so take that into account.

Read all three, didn't notice this. I must not be very attentive.

Maybe he was trying to make a pun. "Liberation Trilogy" vs "Liberal". There may be a hint in how he spelled "writting"... with two T's -- or rather, "to tease".

I also read all three and managed to miss it as well. Since there are a variety of political views in this thread, from conservative to liberal, and this view has never been expressed, I have my doubts. It was never brought up before. I would also like to see some specifics.

Never heard this in conjunction with Atkinson's work, either.

"Extreme liberal bias"? First of all, that is a very vague sort of label to paste on someone. Secondly, having read all three books I think the accusation is absolutely false.

    Reality has a liberal bias.
