Guys : Can anyone help me with biographical info on this man... ? He was in charge of the forces in the Baltic March-May of 1945. thanks ! E
Ill see what I can do, if anything. I sent a message to two KM buffs on the Wehrmacht forums, so ill see if we get a reply.
Great Carl ! Send me a private on hotmail if you would like.....when you have some info. vielen Dank ! E
Will do, but so far--I havent heard back from either of these guys. I wish I had my German Order of Battle 1944, book on hand---I KNOW it has something of him in that book. Darn thing is STILL in storage out of town
Carl, it's not imperitive. Whenever, just thought it would be nice so I can add him to my Ost Preussian materials at the end of the war. I do want to do anrticle maybe for this site with oot's approval, of course this thing could be absolutely gigantic ! Friedrich, I tried the link twice and get some weird stuff about a slain girl gag ! E
No problem, ill keep trying. Also I got the same results as you did on the link but forgot to mention it.
HI Erich: Try this site, the guy has a picture of Thiele for sale. http://www.apexweb.co.uk/tiger/newstock.asp?offset=10
Here is another site with a German order of Battle from 1940 http://www.warships1.com/W-OOB/OOB_WWII_Atlantic/OOB_WWII_Weserubung.htm I hope these help a little.
Steve : Thanks but the chap in the Uk sold the pic.....rats ! Would of been nice to have a signed original. I'll check the OOB you posted, thanks again.... ! E
Damned!!! Stupid Friedrich!!! Sorry, Erich. This is the one: http://www.geocities.com/Pentagon/Quarters/5768/pers_register_lz.html
* Bump * ? Ouch ! Did you hurt yourself running into the table Friedrich ? Your link is the same one as given earlier......thanks anyway. Still searching and I think I've got something although again quite brief. What's in your book if anything ?? E
Erich--I checked out the site that has a signed pic of Thiele for sale. For one--that is a GREAT price for a signed pic from an Admiral. But I also learned a few things from looking at his picture and reading the caption. He had been Kapitan on the LUTZOW (which I had not known. This was in 1940. I recently bought a pic of many officers that were taken on the Lutzow, Thiele might be in the picture. Ill have to check when I get to looking at my pictures again. The picture clearly showes the name of the ship--LUTZOW. I had also not known that he was an RKT untill looking at the pic. According to what the caption said--he finished the war as Commander in Chief of the Baltic Fleet in 1945. Anyway--hope this helps you a bit.
Carl : My provider is being hacked...... so am not sure how long I will be able to repsond to postings. Thanks for the tidbits of info, they all help and thanks to all so far who have posted help. Carl, the English guy sold the pic as I was inteneding to purchase it or maybe even send the guy double for it, but alas it is now property of someone else......too bad ! His service in 1945 in the Baltic is what I am most interested in. E
