RN Research Facility/Laboratory Blackdown/Haslemere

I would very much like to find out more about the work my father did at a RN Research Facility/Laboratory on Blackdown near Haslemere Surrey in the early 1940's
He was at Cambridge but (I assume) paused his studies and as is so often the case never spoke much about it
His name was Charles Ronald Potter and he came from Ripon Yorks
Any help or suggestions about how to proceed would be most gratefully received
