Completed six pounder gun, one of a large number that were being turned out at a Royal Ordnance factory built at the start of the war. More than half the operatives were women, and seen here is Miss Brenda Harris, who works a drilling machine. Mr. Lyttelton Minister of Production at the time, paid a tribute to women, in ordinance factories saying that they were doing skilled men’s jobs really well. Miss Brenda Harris was working 56 hours a week during the war years.
