My Grandfather was a Navigator in the SAAF with 24 Squadron. This photo of the squadron was taken in Fuka, Egypt in August 1941. It is one of hundreds of photos he took during the war. Unfortunately he died before I was born, so I didn't get to meet him and don't understand all the photos I have found. It is very difficult to read his handwriting. I'll put a few up. If anybody can shed some more light that would be lovely.

The photo was taken in '43, according to the writing on the side, could be of Italy?

Bombs away, possibly in North Africa?

I'll dig out some better photos later...

    Hello Shells,
Thanks for posting the interesting pictures. Do you have a logbook or names of other crew? I am trying to get information on a Lt Brian Nichols who flew Bostons in 24 Squadron and was lost around October 1942. I am also trying to find anyone who could look up the book, Per Noctem Per Diem, The story of 24 Squadron which I am hoping may have some information on the man and what happened to him. Thanks Goodenbp

This is another thread that must have been lost in the shuffle and I missed it. Great photo's and here's hoping Shells is still around.

Sorry, this is the first timei have logged on in over a year, been rather preoccupied with motherhood.Goodenbp i may be able to help. My Grandad wrote his memoirs which are a wealth of information plus he saved menus from the various Christmas dinnes which are all signed and list the other officers dining. I won't be able to access the information for a few months, next time i am home i will have a look for you.
