I am writing something abut the 1950s, and fireams play a role in it. I am researching wartime arms and ammunition (particularly those used by British and US forces), as well as small arms and ammo loadings used by US police forces in 1945-1963. I have cruised a wide range of small arms sites, and I am thinking about joining some. Does anyone here know of any good ones that they could recommend? When I say "good" I mean sites where the members have accurate, reliable information, where newcomers with seemingly simple questions are welcome, where the atmosphere is polite, and where I will not encounter a lot of political nonsense of any shade. Your suggestions are welcome, thanks.
milsurps.com is a good site, but it deals exclusively with military firearms. Not politics, no commentary -- a nice collector-oriented site.
You could also try contacting Tony Williams http://www.quarryhs.co.uk/ He sometimes posts here and has an amazing amount of info (and cartridge collection) there is a link to his forum at that page
