Apologies to all for the recent server downtime. Since you all seem to like to discuss WW2 so much, I took the liberty of moving us to a bigger & better sever, one that will be able to handle the current traffic plus new visitors for years to come. WW2Talk.com is very close to completing her move to a new home also.
Danke Mein Herr ! Gave me a scare this morning when I couldn't access WW2f to go along with my morning coffee. All is well now.
Don't worry , it's really us . You are not in a parallel dimension and the rogues here don't have a bar code behind their head.
Glad to see it up so quickly Otto! Made for a long night without the forum.....Thanks for all your work!
It now seems that I can not access this forum from my laptop (Mozilla). There is a page that states that I have to email the Admin for assistance. I am still able to access it with my Ipad (Safari), I'd appreciate any help via PM. Thanks in advance, Rich
Hi Rich, sorry about stranding you at the old base. You might try Clearing Your DNS Cache, and then also clearing your browser cache/cookies/history etc. Let me know if that helps.
I had a heck of a time last few days trying to fix. Surprised god noticed this mote in his eye. We're not in Kansas anymore Toto. Thanks Otto.
Two more prodigal sons find their way back. Time for a celebration! The upside for you two is that you got to see my insanely rambling message written in a huge font on the front page of the old server. Lucky you!
Aah nice going mate, Do you have the stylevars of vb3 stored over here? if so you can use their dandy new feature (coming with the update) to convert them to vb4 and get a bait to satisfy the bears Seriously, it'll provide a nice jump off point to finish the style up rather than draw from scratch. Regards, TBA
You'd think that would be a good feature would you? The sad truth is that the company that coded the vBulletin software was bought out a couple years back, and development has stagnated ever since. For starters, the current style variables are not final, meaning that creating a theme is futile, as they will need to be re-coded with each new release. In addition, the importer you mention is essentially useless. It imports the general colors of the old theme and creates a bunch of glitches in the process. Even if you do spend the time to repair them, the entire theme will need to be redone with each release, (due to the aforementioned changes in style variables). This is the reason why we are without a decent skin, and why ww2talk.com has not been migrated to the new platform. WW2Talk might be on the older version, but it is a more stable, safer, customizable version by a country mile.
Sorry mate, didn't want to ruffle any feathers, just pointed out the fact incase you hadn't noticed it. I myself am only experimenting on the 4.0 release, and hence didn't really know the usefulness (or lack of it) of the style converter. Perhaps the reason, why my mates have switched over to other pastures which are greener? Thanks for your efforts mate, Regards, TBA
Not a problem at all TBA, vBulletin used to be the "best of breed" as they say, but that is changing quickly. I appreciate any and all suggestions, and in your case, if it is specifically technical/server administration in nature, why not email me direct? I'd be happy to continue our previous discussions on vBulletin. Let's not bore the Rogues with computing technical jargon, they have ORBATs and armour penetration tables to sift through.
