Was looking at my grandfather's uniform and on the left sleeve near the cuff there are two yellow stripes and below that, one green one that is angled?

I just want to make sure my understanding is correct, the two yellow represent a year over seas (6 months for each one) and the other, represents 3 years of service? Correct?

They are two separate but related things. His total Federal service was over three years, but less than six years, which would have entitled him to another stripe. Of that service, at least three years and six months, but less than four years, was in service overseas.

I think this answers your question.

Each yellow, horizontal stripe represents 6 months of overseas service during combat. He would have had at least one year, but less than eighteen months, overseas.
