I believe these pictures ware made somewhere in Tchechie! They discovered a German tank in a swamp and pulled it out. The tank was in a verry good shape, even the painting was still intact! Must be awsome when you find something like that!
A perrenial forum favourite, and understandably so. Threads: http://www.ww2f.com/weapons-wwii/32951-t-34-tank-pulled-bog-after-65-years-runs-still.html http://www.ww2f.com/weapons-wwii/12560-anyone-know-about-t-34-a.html#post152301 http://www.ww2f.com/weapons-wwii/30895-t-34-german-markings-recovered-lake.html (few more out there too) Videos, and original article: ?????? ????? (pulling tank) T-34. Last I heard it was almost restored, certainly briefly a runner - sadly the original beutepanzer markings appeared to have been lost in the process. ~A
There's still a lot of magnetometer work going on in the Ost, from locals to rather well funded Western collectors. Secretive business though so one tends to only hear snippets. (Having said that, there's research going into vehicles still buried in Western theatres too). Guess which vehicle they're all hoping for... go on, guess A large problem is how it's almost impossible to export anything like a military vehicle from Russian territory. It seems the holy grail is to find something 'significant' in one of the states that broke away from the SU on it's disintegration. ~A
Yeah this comes up every few years doesn't it? The thing that strikes me is the odd every time is the out of place German commander's cupola on the Russian tank. Shows how much importance the Germans put into the cupola, as it can't have been an easy battlefield add-on.
A little on some British toying with German Cupolas on Churchills, from Gerry's North Irish Horse site: Page Three And as this is a bit of a deja vu thread, I can rarely resist a chance to post another link to the fine Beutepanzer website. More german cupolas mounted on opposition tanks than you can shake a stick at: Beutepanzer (Really rather good resource on captured vehicles used by the Germans - if anyone's not visited before it's well worth a shufti.)
