Over the past few days it seems like a lot of spamming is going on.

I keep seeing quotes from previous posts and then under the signature of the member there are links to all sorts of wares.

I answered one post requesting information on a UK battalionand the next day the same question was being asked by someone selling floor heating equipment.

Just wondering if this is an occasional thing or if it is constant?

This is a fun forum to visit but I can only imagine how tough it is for the mods to keep up with this.

    Thanks.

Lord knows that Jeff and the rest have their hands full of keeping all the Children in line-as well as the other problem children.

Personally, I wish there was an anti-spammers program available. The program would automatically send 10,000 computer virises to the computer that their spam was sent from. But I guess that would be against the law to have? :-D

you should see behind the curtain how many spammers we actually catch every week, sometimes we get a group offensive, but we always terminate them.

While I have no idea how many of these miscreants you guy intercept, I would like some "hacker" who has a decent heart to come up with a "mirror" program that would intercept the spam and send it back to them muliplied (as Carl suggested) by thousands. So the sending unit was crippled by 'incoming', and honest sites could use it to get rid of these pains-in-the rear!

I logged in today to give my usual welcome to the new members and found two spammers in the ten threads that I read. They are everywhere. Fortunately, the courts are coming down hard on them. Facebook just one a huge verdict against three spammers and it is hoped that the verdict will send a message.

Rogues who find Spam should always report the posts so that we can take it down.

    Make that 4 spammers in the past hour . . . .

    Hi David, Michelle,

David, you guys don't get as much recognition IMO-for your efforts to keep trouble away from this site. I HATE spammers with a passion and wish I were a computer geek who could in turn send them some stuff back. ;-))

Im with Michelle in saying you all do one hell of a great job.

    Take care--Carl.

The thing about Spammers is that its usually a virus of some sort that has taken over somebodies computer, using it as a 'base' to send forth spam and such, so that when you 'send' a mirror virus back to them, it really doesn't hurt the people who created the virus/spammer in the first place. They call them 'zombie computers' since the range of of what the original virus can do to them allows the 'hacker' to control the computer or make it send out Spam. I think Hong Kong has the largest 'zombie' population in the world right now...more the 10,000+ computers are believed to be 'zombies'.

There is no way to fight back spammers however much I would like to, and I am a computer geek with over 10 years of IT security experience. 99% of spam comes from hijacked computers whose owners are unaware they have been compromised, so attacking them in turn would put you in the wrong. It's relatively easy (but hard work) to blacklist them once identified but sadly "wars are not won by defensive operations". Musso AFAIK your 10.000 figure is underestimated, there are a lot more "bots" out there.

Congrats and thanks to the mods, I'm often surprised of how well WW2F is doing in keeping clear of trash compared to some "professional" sites.

The 10,000 was in reference to Hong Kong along, not the rest of the world. There was an article on it a few months ago.
